Football great comes home to cook up a new business
(Auburn, AL) Tommy and David Lorino are hoping to turn an Alabama barbecue legend into a War Eagle tradition. Tommy Lorino is at the helm as Alabama's oldest restaurant, The Golden Rule, opens its newest location Monday, December 15th at 1936 South College Street in Auburn.
"We are thrilled to bring the Golden Rule experience to Auburn," says Tommy Lorino, who owns and operates the restaurant with his son David. "I'm excited to be back home on the Plains. This place holds great memories for me and I look forward to good times ahead." A running back in college, Tommy Lorino played on Shug Jordan's national championship team in 1957.
Tommy plans to spend a lot of time in the restaurant as David serves as operating partner. "My family has a great affection for the Auburn area. We realized that this was a unique opportunity and a solid business decision. We are enjoying the high quality of life the Auburn community provides," says David. He and his family moved from Brentwood, Tennessee, where he was an executive with Hewlett-Packard.
The Original Golden Rule® Bar-B-Q and Grill serves its trademark barbecue that made the restaurant famous and includes an expanded menu featuring steaks, seafood, salads and more. The Auburn location offers an extensive catering menu to serve crowds from 10 to 10,000.
The restaurant is open seven days a week, serving lunch and dinner. The secret-recipe Original Golden Rule® Bar-B-Q sauce is also available in bottles to go.
The first Golden Rule Bar-B-Q opened in Irondale in 1891.With the opening in Auburn, Golden Rule® Bar-B-Q and Grill has thirteen locations in Alabama and plans to expand throughout the Southeast. New restaurants are scheduled to open soon in Phenix City, Sylacauga and Columbus, Georgia.
